I have never made a full size slouch hat before, so this was really new ground for me. Add to that the fact this pattern was not intended to be one, and we have a fun chance to learn a lesson.
Learn something I did, too. I learned that I am pretty damn good at altering patterns to my needs, as long as I know the base aspect of the pattern. This pattern actually called for bulky wool yarn, not what I used. So I had to use many more patterned rows than the original hat pattern would have used.
Ultimately this hat was a lot of work and a lot of fun. It took me much longer than I wish it would have to make. However, it is no secret that I am a slow knitter. I am impatient and it really does take me a while to sit down and push through a project. Especially more intensive ones like this hat. I just hope the recipient likes it at much as I do!
